Dear 3N1,

Please take note of the following for your e-Learning assignment.

  1. You are to post your comments and responses based on the given scenario and questions.
  2. Your posting should incorporate text, pictures and suitable multimedia elements such as animation/video clips.
  3. For each posting, please provide evidence gathered from the Internet to support your reasoning.
  4. Do remember to provide the links which you have used for this assignment.

Last but not least, HAPPY e-LEARNING !!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenario:

Paint manufacturers such as Nippont doesn't make all the different colours of paints; in fact, they make a few selected colours, and the paint shops mix different paints to get the colour needed.

A paint seller, Mark, mixed wrong buckets of paint together. "What a mess," he thought " I have to pay for these, and they are not cheap!"

Suddenly he remembered what he has learnt for Chemistry during his secondary school days - "Paints are just dyes, I can use paper chromatography to separate them! Then, I don't have to pay for the wasted paint."

Questions:

  1. Is chromatography a feasible (possible) method to separate the bucket of mixed paint?
  2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using chromatography?
  3. What are the different types of chromatography available ? Conduct a search on the Internet to answer this question. You are strongly encouraged to include pictures or video for the different types of chromatography found.
